Introduction

MindDrop ("we," "our," or "the app") is a private voice journal and mood tracker for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device Only

The following data is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not have access to this data, and it is never uploaded to our servers:

  • Voice recordings: Audio files recorded during journal entries. Processed on-device for transcription and deleted after processing (not stored permanently unless you enable recording retention in settings).
  • Journal transcriptions: Text generated from speech recognition, processed entirely on-device using Apple's Speech framework.
  • Mood scores and labels: Sentiment analysis results computed on-device from your transcribed journal text.
  • Reflections and summaries: Personalized insights generated from your mood data, processed on-device.
  • Streak and usage data: Your journaling streak count, entry timestamps, and habit data.

Data Shared with Third-Party Services

  • RevenueCat (payment processing): Anonymous device identifier, subscription status, and transaction history. Used to manage subscriptions and restore purchases. RevenueCat does not receive your journal content. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
  • PostHog (anonymous analytics): Anonymous usage events (e.g., "tapped record," "viewed insights," "completed onboarding"), device type, OS version, and app version. No personal identifiers, no journal content, and no mood data is sent. PostHog Privacy Policy.
  • Sentry (crash reporting): Crash logs, stack traces, device model, and OS version. Sent only when the app crashes or encounters an error. No journal content or personal data is included. Sentry Privacy Policy.

We do not send your journal audio, journal text, or mood analysis to any third-party AI provider.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect, store, or transmit your voice recordings to any server.
  • We do not collect, store, or transmit your journal text to any server.
  • We do not collect your name, email address, or other personal identifiers.
  • We do not use any advertising SDKs or tracking pixels.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for advertising purposes.

How We Use Data

  • On-device journal data: Used solely to provide you with mood tracking, insight reports, streak tracking, and the core app experience.
  • Anonymous analytics: Used to understand how people use the app so we can improve features and fix usability issues.
  • Crash reports: Used to identify and fix bugs that cause the app to crash.
  • Subscription data: Used to manage your Premium subscription, verify purchase status, and enable/disable premium features.

Data Retention

Journal entries, mood data, and recordings are stored on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. Deleting the app removes all local data permanently. Anonymous analytics data is retained by PostHog for 12 months. Crash reports are retained by Sentry for 90 days.
